Items & Catalogue
Your item catalogue is the foundation of your store. Learn how to add products, organise them by category, manage stock levels, and import items in bulk.
Adding a Product Manually
- 1
Go to Items in the sidebar
Tap the inventory icon or navigate to Items from the main menu.
- 2
Tap 'Add Product' (or the + FAB on mobile)
A product form opens at the bottom of the screen.
- 3
Fill in product details
Required: Name and Price. Optional: SKU, Barcode, Category, Stock quantity, Cost Price (for profit tracking), Low-stock threshold, and image.
- 4
Toggle 'Service Item' if applicable
Service items don't track stock — perfect for haircuts, consultations, or delivery charges.
- 5
Save the product
Tap 'Save'. The item appears immediately on the POS catalogue grid.
Assign a cost price to products to see gross profit in your sales reports.
Organising with Categories
- 1
Create categories first
Go to Settings → Categories. Tap the + button to add a category (e.g. Beverages, Electronics, Clothing).
- 2
Assign a category when adding/editing a product
Select the category from the dropdown in the product form. Products without a category are grouped under 'Uncategorised'.
On the POS screen, category chips appear at the top of the catalogue so your cashiers can quickly filter to the right products.
Managing Stock Levels
- 1
View current stock
The Items screen shows each product's current stock quantity. Items at or below their low-stock threshold are flagged in amber.
- 2
Add stock manually
Go to Items → Stock Entry. Select the product, enter the quantity received, and optionally enter the cost price. Tap 'Save Entry' to update the stock.
- 3
View stock movement history
Tap the ↕ icon next to any item to open Stock History — a full log of every sale deduction and manual adjustment for that product.
Set a 'Low Stock Threshold' per product. When stock drops below this, an alert appears on the Dashboard and in Reports.
Bulk Import via CSV
- 1
Prepare your CSV file
Columns: name, price, sku, stock, category, costPrice, barcode. The 'name' and 'price' columns are required.
- 2
Go to Items → More → Bulk Upload
Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right and choose 'Bulk Upload'.
- 3
Select your CSV file
Choose the file from your device. SnapOS will process it and show a summary of created and updated items, plus any errors.
Importing from a Catalogue Template
- 1
Go to Items → Import Catalog
Tap 'Import Catalog' from the Items screen or the More menu.
- 2
Browse templates by business type
Select a pre-built template that matches your store type (e.g. Grocery, Pharmacy, Café). Preview the included products.
- 3
Import selected items
Choose which products to import and tap 'Import'. All selected items are added to your catalogue with default prices and categories.
Catalogue templates are a great way to get started fast — import a template and then edit prices to match your store.
